It accepts text and image input, produces text output, and supports configurable reasoning effort from none through max.

- Balanced production tier: designed for applications that need strong reasoning without the higher cost of the Sol tier

- Agent tools: supports function calling, structured outputs, web search, file search, image generation, code interpreter, hosted shell, MCP, and tool search through supported OpenAI APIs
OpenAI lists GPT-5.6 Terra at $2.50 per million input tokens, $0.25 per million cached input tokens, and $15 per million output tokens. Its documented knowledge cutoff is February 16, 2026. Requests with more than 272K input tokens use higher long-context pricing, so developers should review OpenAI’s current pricing documentation for production workloads.
